Our schools are not teaching students to think. It is astonishing how many young people have difficulty in putting their brains definitely and systematically to work....Thomas Edison

I have my NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICIATION.

Background: My name is obviously Charles Tuttle, but what you do not know is that my middle name is Maurice and I am a Junior. I was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, and have spent the vast majority of my life in the state. I've lived in South Carolina and Colorado and spent time in Southeast Asia, mainly Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. I've lived in Charlotte since 1998 when I began working for CMS. I am married, have two little girls, a Miniature Schnauzer (who could be mistaken for a wild pot-bellied pig), and a large rodent of a dog...a Yorkie.

Education: I earned my degree in Physics from Appalachian State University and owe most of my success to the professors there. I owe my original inspiration in Science to quite a few teachers, namely Ms. Mercurio (7th grade), Ms. Parks (8th grade), and Mr. Prim (Physics). When it comes to how I teach, however, I have to thank Mrs. Patty Blanton from Watauga High School, in Boone, with whom I did my student teaching. I also have a minor in Mathematics and took courses in Digital Electronics and Astronomy.

Pedagogy: I teach in a way that most students are not yet familiar, I actually make them figure things out. I ask them an insane number of questions, asking them about three for every one they ask me. I am a big fan of laboratory experiments where the outcome is unknown and students use data to create the Laws of Physics.

Hobbies: I am an avid reader, mainly science fiction/fantasy and books pertaining to Physics. I love watching cartoons, LOTR, Castle, The Walking Dead, CSI (mainly to catch Physics mistakes), and of course, Mythbusters. My favorite channels are the History Channel and Discovery Channel. I love to build and paint toy soldiers, in 1/72 scale, from Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Pirates, Superfigs, and build scenery to accompany them. I love games of all sorts..Magic the Gathering, Battlelore, NUTS!, Settlers of Catan, Apples to Apples, Zombies!...all kinds of non-traditional board games. All of the preceding take a distant second to my favorite hobby, playing with my daughters.

I love LEGOs thanks to my daughters love of the store at Concord Mills. I have no shame in admitting that I am completely geeked out by playing with some LEGOs.
